Protect and strengthen natural teeth with dental crowns
Drs. Gina and Christopher Gomez at the Gomez Family Dentistry of Pensacola, Florida, specialize in placing dental crowns. These are tooth-shaped caps that encase a natural tooth to protect it from further damage and restore its function. The most common materials used for crowns include porcelain, metal alloys, or a combination of both. These ceramic crowns or “tooth caps” play an important role in general and restorative dentistry and help patients protect and strengthen their natural teeth.
When do I need a dental crown?
Crowns can be placed on teeth damaged by decay, trauma, cracks in the enamel, large fillings, or discoloration due to intense staining or aging. Patients who have undergone root canal therapy may also benefit from dental crowns to protect the weakened structure. This versatility makes them a common solution for patients in our practice looking to restore their smiles. The best way to find out if a dental crown can help you is by booking an appointment at Gomez Family Dentistry for an evaluation.
Real Patients, Real Results
What can I expect from the process of obtaining a dental crown?
The process of receiving a dental crown typically takes two office visits. During the first visit, Drs. Gina and Christopher Gomez prepare the tooth by reshaping it so the crown can fit snuggly over it while allowing enough room for flossing and cleaning. Then, an impression of the prepared tooth is taken to create a custom-made crown in a laboratory. In the meantime, a temporary crown will be placed over the tooth until your follow-up visit.
At the second appointment, Drs. Gina and Christopher Gomez will replace the temporary restoration with your new permanent crown. After ensuring proper fit and comfort, they will make adjustments to ensure you have a perfect smile!
At Gomez Family Dentistry, we’re excited to share how the Medit Scanner is changing the way we take dental impressions. The Medit Scanner is a top-notch intraoral scanner. It lets us take really accurate, 3D pictures of your teeth and gums. It’s a non-invasive tool that uses a special light to scan your mouth in real-time and make a virtual model of your oral cavity. We use this model for all sorts of dental procedures like orthodontics, implantology, and restorative dentistry.
Here’s how it works. The scanner is a handheld gadget that I move around in your mouth. As it scans, it shines a light onto your teeth and gums. The light is safe and won’t cause any discomfort. The scanner takes thousands of images every second. These images are then put together to make a 3D digital model of your mouth. This technology is a big step up from the old way of taking impressions. You remember, the one where you had to bite into a soft, gooey substance that then hardened into a mold. With the Medit scanner, the whole process is faster, more comfortable, and gives us more accurate results. We’re really proud to offer this service to our patients in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, and Pace. It’s all part of our promise to give you the best dental care possible using the latest technology. If you have any more questions about the Medit Scanner or if you want to book an appointment, just give us a call at (850) 429-4664. We’re always here to help!
