Tooth Replacement Options with Dentures and Partials
At Gomez Family Dentistry, Pensacola, Florida, area residents can replace one or more teeth with tooth replacement options available with Drs. Gina and Christopher Gomez. A popular and economical choice for many of our patients is dentures. We proudly offer both full and partial dentures for patient consideration.
What are full dentures?
Full dentures also referred to as “complete dentures,” are prosthetic, artificial teeth that are used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. They are made of acrylic resin and fit onto the gums, typically using natural suction or a denture adhesive. Full dentures can be used in the upper arch, lower arch, or both mouth arches.
Full dentures are designed to look like natural teeth and are often customized for each patient’s mouth. This helps ensure that they fit comfortably and securely when worn. Proper care is necessary to maintain full dentures and keep them looking their best. This includes regular cleaning as well as periodic professional adjustments. With proper care, full dentures can last anywhere from five to eight years before they need to be replaced.
What are partial dentures?
Partial dentures are custom prosthetic teeth used to replace some, but not all, teeth in a single arch. They may be made from acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal. Partial dentures usually attach to existing healthy teeth with clasps, which help them stay securely in place. They can also rest on your gums and sometimes may need denture adhesive.
As with full dentures, partial dentures are typically removable and can be taken out for daily cleaning. As with full dentures, it is essential to follow proper care instructions when using partial dentures, so they last as long as possible. With good care and maintenance, partial dentures can last anywhere from three to five years before needing adjustments or replacement.
